Ken from Silas meets Gloriae from Blood of Requiem

My good friend and fantastic author buddy Dan Arenson joined me in promoting our respective books on E.J. Steven's From the Shadows blog. It's really quite entertaining, if I do say so myself. Check it out by clicking the link below! RJD Feeding the Beast - Why we need monsters in our lives Just to let anyone who's interested know, The Fall is now on sale at Amazon.com for 14.39. I'm not sure how long this sale will last, so anyone who is interested in a good book at a discounted price, feel free to click on the link below: The Fall: The Rift Book I Trade Paperback I was interviewed recently by the folks over at Kindle Author, a blog dedicated to promoting new, well, Kindle authors. Here's the link. Kindle author interview Yes, finally. And it's a five-star guy, as well. Unfortunately, this was a Kindle reader, because there is no mention of Jesse's fantastic illustrations, but that's okay. We'll take what we can get. Click here to go to the Amazon product page and read the review. Just scroll to the bottom of the page. RJD Well, summer's officially here, and we at TRO have been busy, as usual, with our usual creative riffraff - though, as expected given the relaxing atmosphere of hot weather and beach time, it's a bit slower than before. As for book news, The Fall is still, as we are, plodding along. Sales have slowed to a virtual crawl, and our advertising campaign, though boosting our site views, garnered a single sale. Oh well. You live and you learn. Also, reviews have been slow to come in. In other words, none have. Just a reminder to anyone who's bought the book - we NEED reviews, even if it's a simple two-line statement with a rating attached. That way, folks who click on the link get an idea as to what people think. It's important. So please, if you can find the time... In other happenings, Dead of Winter is slowly rounding into form. We've come up with a tentative release date, though I will not announce that date as of this time to alleviate pressure on us, and the final round of edits is creeping toward the finish line. I'm truly excited about this book. The pacing is so much better than the first, and the story, while solemn, is picking up steam. I can't wait to get it out there, if for no other reason than to show potential readers that when we say we're creating a series, we're not blowing smoke up your asses. That's it for now. If you stumble upon this site, please feel free to check out the book and, hell, buy it if the mood so strikes you. Peace. - RJD We are pleased to announce that The Fall: The Rift Book I is now available in the Amazon Kindle store for only $4.99. Unfortunately, the Kindle as it is presently constructed cannot be formatted to include the illustrations in the form we want them, so we have chosen to forgo them in this format - hence, the discounted price. However, the book itself is still there, and if one wants to see the fantastic work Jesse created, they will just have to invest in a hard copy. Add to this the fact that Kindle is becoming a booming market in and of itself, and it would be foolish to ignore. You can find the product's Kindle page here. In other news, the editing of the second book is past the halfway point. I am very excited about this for many reasons, but mostly because, of the four parts (or seasons, as I originally dubbed them), the winter is my favorite. It is a quieter novel, more introspective, and of the four comes closest to being a true "zombie novel". The firm title is "Dead of Winter". This is good stuff, folks. You won't be disappointed. Be back tomorrow with possibly more random posts. This sticking to format thing is driving me nuts. - RJD Hey hey, I'm not so pleased... Alright maybe I am pleased. I felt like high-jacking Rob's post too. -j. I've come to realize that, no matter how much I've read in my life, it hasn't been enough. My youth was consumed by Clive Barker, Stephen King, Anne Rice, H.P. Lovecraft, Dean Koontz, Peter Straub, Richard Layman, and the like. Pretty much, I dedicated myself to "genre fiction", and didn't stray too far outside that realm. Later on, I discovered new (to me) arena's of fiction. Walter Mosley - love him. John Banville - ditto. Carl Hiaasen - fantastic. Michael Swanwick - Yum. Neil Gaiman - modern-day goodness. It was so fantastic to read these stories by these authors who, in my prejudiced, I would have written off as "uncool". Now, I have jumped into the fray with Philip K. Dick - he of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, which is the novel that the movie Blade Runner is loosely based on. I am currently reading The Man in the High Castle, which is widely considered to be the seminal work of speculative alt-history fiction. It is such a fantastic book, and I would suggest that anyone who wishes to broaden their horizons when it comes to literature should start up with him. Dick writes from a dangerous place, and it is through this paranoia and preternatural understanding of human frailty and faults that makes (at least the novel I'm reading right now) him great. I will write a review of this book when I'm finished with it. Until then, pick it up for yourself. You'll be glad you did. -RJD Well, we got the first little write-up of the book, and it's from my friend and the novel's first editor, Michelle Howarth. She is declining to review it until she's re-read the story (while finally not having to stare at a glowing screen), but she was nice enough to link our site (and The Fall's product page on the Brit Amazon), so take a look if you like. Also, put aside the time to peruse some of Shelly's own work. She's one of the most talented young authors I've ever met, and her sense of humor is sublime. You can visit the site by clicking on this sentence and then go to her reading/reviews section. Let's keep it going. RJD | The Rift Online Team
