The March round now begins: today it's The Gate: 13 Dark and Odd Tales that gets the no-cost treatment. It will be free today, March 7th, until tomorrow, March 8th. Head on over to the 'Zon and pick yourselves up a copy! Add Comment Well, in a way, anyhow. The ebook - without illustrations - has gone live at Amazon, cover and all. It will stay the way it is until the grumpy artist finishes the interiors and the paperback is made available - sometime in the middle of next month. Until then, enjoy book 3, and here's a link to the Amazon page and a sneaky peek at that cover. DEATH SPRINGS ETERNAL AMAZON PAGE COVER: Pretty, ain't it? I thought so. Till next time, RJD That's right folks: David Dalglish, author of the Half-Orc and Shadowdance series, has started yet another series, this one chronicling the trials and travails of the paladins, both dark and light, that appear in his other books. Here's a look at the first installment, Night of Wolves. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: "The humans are weak. Their skin is soft, and their minds dull from years of safety. We are the vicious. We are the destroyers. Come the full moon, when our goddess watches our victory, we will taste of their blood!" ---- Wolf-men, savage creatures given humanoid form in an ancient war, mass along the Gihon River. Led by their packleader Redclaw, they seek to cross the river and claim a land of their own, slaughtering those that would stand in their way. Two paladins, Jerico of the god Ashhur, and Darius of the god Karak, must helm the desperate defense against the invasion. Their friendship will be tested as their gods resume an unending war, and their very faiths call for the death of the other. Together, friend or foe, they must face Redclaw's horde. NIGHT OF WOLVES by David Dalglish Can faith remain when the gods call for blood? ABOUT THE AUTHOR: David Dalglish currently lives in rural Missouri with his wife Samantha, daughter Morgan, and snake, Velixar. He graduated from Missouri Southern State University in 2006 with a degree in Mathematics and currently spends his free time watching Spongebob Squarepants with his daughter. Night of Wolves is currently available in ebook format for the rock-bottom price of 99¢ at Amazon and Amazon UK. Well, for anyone who's been waiting for book two of The Rift to be released, your wait is over! In a way, anyhow. As of right now, Dead of Winter is live on Amazon for the Kindle. I know, I know, the print book is supposed to be available, too, but we've run into a couple snags along the way. It won't be too long, however. We're looking right now at the second week of January for the release. That being said, anyone who wants to pick up Dead of Winter can simply click here to find the Amazon product page. As I've said many times, this is my favorite book in the series, and I'm quite happy with the way it turned out. I hope you will be, as well. I'll now leave you with an image of the cover - which will change slightly, because the font is a little, well, weak. It's a fantastic piece of art, folks. And the interior illustrations are going to be just as good. Peace. - RJD Buy Dead of Winter for the Kindle: I apologize to anyone who frequents this blog for my overall lack of updates. It's been a busy last couple months, and honestly, whenever I sit down to write up a post, my mind goes blank. I think I'm using up all my abilities finishing up book two and trying like hell to figure out this marketing game. As far as the second installment of The Rift goes, it's coming along quite nicely. I have two more chapters to go in the third round of rewrites. Then, it's off to my editors while Jesse cranks out his contributions. Then it's the (dreaded) act of putting everything together, going over proofs, and finally releasing it live, which as I said should be some time in December. I'm looking forward to this greatly, as Dead of Winter is my favorite installment of the series. It'll be here soon, folks. In other news, I plan on releasing a compilation of short stories this coming November tentatively titled He Is The Gate and 8 Other Odd Tales. Hopefully, this will be a nice addition to our catalog (seeing as Jesse's artwork will once again adorn the cover, and that image is the subject of the title piece). I just have to decide whether I want to go with simply a Kindle release or go full-out with a digest version, as well. Also, sales have picked up immensely this month - digitally, that is. We've been averaging two sales a day for the month. Print book? Not so much, but that's okay. We never planned on making our money through paperbacks, anyway, though it'd be nice. The plan from here on out is, once the other books get out there, to start perhaps a blog tour with Pump Your Books or maybe a local signing tour. I'm not sure about that. It's still a ways away right now, so there's time. One last thing: Very soon, after we finish up Dead of Winter, I'm thinking of running a contest, either here on the site or at kindleboards.com. The subject of this contest? The title of book three. Right now, it's working title is The Rites of Spring. I'm not too hot on that. This has been, honestly, the most difficult book to name. It's also the strangest one in the series. It's all...well, you know what? I'll leave that for when I run the contest. Well, that's all for today. And just a reminder, drop by Amanda Hocking's Zombiepalooza before October 28th. Post a comment beneath the article for a chance to win a paperback of The Fall, signed by both Jesse and myself. Zombiepalooza: Robert Duperre article - Facing the Beast Or, if you wish to buy a book after seeing this, check out my author page on Amazon. Peace, folks. RJD Yes. Now, I will ramble. I'm putting off writing a review right now. It's something I know I have to do, but sometimes it can be such a stressful process - ESPECIALLY if it's a review for a book I loved. I want to do the thing justice, and sometimes I wonder if I'll be able to pull it off. Don't know why I do this to myself, though. I always end up doing it, and doing it well, at that. Perhaps it's just my inherent fear of "not being good enough". Oh well. On that note, our book sales have been stuck at one a day for this month. I know this is good for a relatively unknown writer, but still, I'd like it to be more. Let's face it, this is a good book - much better than a lot of things out there. I just know that if folks were to find it, they'd think the same. But the problem is getting them to discover the thing, isn't it? I think I diluted myself into thinking releasing on Kindle would be the magic pill for some exposure...and while it has helped some, and I can't deny that fact, I still want MORE MORE MORE. Jeez, can I whine, or what? *sigh* I just need to bust out of this rut I'm finding myself in and do it, already. Get to editing, get to writing that review. The only thing that's going to remedy our relative lack of sales is more effort on our part. I'm not gonna give up, that's for fucking sure. So keep on plugging, brother, I tells meself. You can do it. And maybe, just maybe, some folks will stumble upon this post and decide that buying a book about the end of the world is just the thing to pick up their day. In that case, here's the link below to find it on Amazon. The Fall: The Rift Book One Peace, everyone. - RJD Well, summer's officially here, and we at TRO have been busy, as usual, with our usual creative riffraff - though, as expected given the relaxing atmosphere of hot weather and beach time, it's a bit slower than before. As for book news, The Fall is still, as we are, plodding along. Sales have slowed to a virtual crawl, and our advertising campaign, though boosting our site views, garnered a single sale. Oh well. You live and you learn. Also, reviews have been slow to come in. In other words, none have. Just a reminder to anyone who's bought the book - we NEED reviews, even if it's a simple two-line statement with a rating attached. That way, folks who click on the link get an idea as to what people think. It's important. So please, if you can find the time... In other happenings, Dead of Winter is slowly rounding into form. We've come up with a tentative release date, though I will not announce that date as of this time to alleviate pressure on us, and the final round of edits is creeping toward the finish line. I'm truly excited about this book. The pacing is so much better than the first, and the story, while solemn, is picking up steam. I can't wait to get it out there, if for no other reason than to show potential readers that when we say we're creating a series, we're not blowing smoke up your asses. That's it for now. If you stumble upon this site, please feel free to check out the book and, hell, buy it if the mood so strikes you. Peace. - RJD We are pleased to announce that The Fall: The Rift Book I is now available in the Amazon Kindle store for only $4.99. Unfortunately, the Kindle as it is presently constructed cannot be formatted to include the illustrations in the form we want them, so we have chosen to forgo them in this format - hence, the discounted price. However, the book itself is still there, and if one wants to see the fantastic work Jesse created, they will just have to invest in a hard copy. Add to this the fact that Kindle is becoming a booming market in and of itself, and it would be foolish to ignore. You can find the product's Kindle page here. In other news, the editing of the second book is past the halfway point. I am very excited about this for many reasons, but mostly because, of the four parts (or seasons, as I originally dubbed them), the winter is my favorite. It is a quieter novel, more introspective, and of the four comes closest to being a true "zombie novel". The firm title is "Dead of Winter". This is good stuff, folks. You won't be disappointed. Be back tomorrow with possibly more random posts. This sticking to format thing is driving me nuts. - RJD Hey hey, I'm not so pleased... Alright maybe I am pleased. I felt like high-jacking Rob's post too. -j. Yesterday, we two particulars got together and trudged through some technical issues that needed rehashing, which means the Amazon store should be back up and running again. There might be a slight delay between the actions of ourselves and the publishers, however, so even if you head over there and find it "NOT AVAILABLE", don't worry about it; it'll be back up soon. We've been stuck on 18 sales for a few days now. I am not depressed by this. It is a slow process, this building of a readership. Once the first round of reviews come in, we'll start our advertising campaign. After all, Clive Barker didn't just suddenly appear out of nowhere. He had to work at it. And work at it we will. Then...it's off to the races, my dearies. We WILL do this. I guarantee you. RJD Here right now, dreaming of the sun and beach and sand and wind. After the fabulous weather yesterday, I cannot WAIT for summer to show up for good. (On second thought, considering how fast this year has been moving, go ahead, summer, take your time.) I've begun work on a video trailer for The Fall. I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing, but plotting this thing out is good practice, I think, especially if I'm going to be plugging out comic scripts. So look out for it over the next couple weeks. If nothing else, it'll be interesting. That's it for today. Check back in tomorrow for more from me...or perhaps the other half, as well. | The Rift Online Team
