The Fall: The Rift Book I Trade Paperback

I've come to realize that, no matter how much I've read in my life, it hasn't been enough.

My youth was consumed by Clive Barker, Stephen King, Anne Rice, H.P. Lovecraft, Dean Koontz, Peter Straub, Richard Layman, and the like.  Pretty much, I dedicated myself to "genre fiction", and didn't stray too far outside that realm.

Later on, I discovered new (to me) arena's of fiction.  Walter Mosley - love him.  John Banville - ditto.  Carl Hiaasen - fantastic.  Michael Swanwick - Yum.  Neil Gaiman - modern-day goodness.  It was so fantastic to read these stories by these authors who, in my prejudiced, I would have written off as "uncool".

Now, I have jumped into the fray with Philip K. Dick - he of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, which is the novel that the movie Blade Runner is loosely based on.  I am currently reading The Man in the High Castle, which is widely considered to be the seminal work of speculative alt-history fiction.  It is such a fantastic book, and I would suggest that anyone who wishes to broaden their horizons when it comes to literature should start up with him.  Dick writes from a dangerous place, and it is through this paranoia and preternatural understanding of human frailty and faults that makes (at least the novel I'm reading right now)  him great.

I will write a review of this book when I'm finished with it.  Until then, pick it up for yourself.  You'll be glad you did.

Yesterday, we two particulars got together and trudged through some technical issues that needed rehashing, which means the Amazon store should be back up and running again.  There might be a slight delay between the actions of ourselves and the publishers, however, so even if you head over there and find it "NOT AVAILABLE", don't worry about it; it'll be back up soon.

We've been stuck on 18 sales for a few days now.  I am not depressed by this.  It is a slow process, this building of a readership.  Once the first round of reviews come in, we'll start our advertising campaign.  After all, Clive Barker didn't just suddenly appear out of nowhere.  He had to work at it.  And work at it we will.  Then...it's off to the races, my dearies.

We WILL do this.  I guarantee you.

Busy, busy, busy.  That describes me to a T.

I've been hard at work re-writing the second book, and let me tell you, I LOVE where this story is going.  Of course, I already know how it ends (seeing as I wrote it), but writing takes on new forms every time you re-explore it.  Those forms are exciting, intense, and full of mystery, even to the author.  Just like the story itself, it's an adventure.

But that's enough out of me.  I have to stop dicking around on the internet and get back to work.

Peace out, folks!

Wow.  This month just FLEW by.  Just like last month and the month before.  I guess time really does move faster when you get older.

Just to give everyone a quick update, we had two more sales, which brings us up to 15.  Yippee!  Things have been progressing quite nicely, if I do say so myself.  It's quite invigorating.

Also, there is a strong possibility that the Amazon page might show NOT AVAILABLE for a day or so either this coming Wednesday or Sunday.  This is only for maintenance - the book is being pulled.  I say this just in case anyone sees this and starts to get worried.

It's off to the dungeon I go now.  So much to do, so little time.

Peace.
